Personal Philosophy Regarding Technology in Education
As educators, we certainly do have a professional obligation to incorporate technology into our curriculum. Its inclusion allows for interactive and immersive learning experiences, catering to diverse learning styles and abilities (Gaggioli, 2018). Technology facilitates student engagement by making learning relevant, interactive, and accessible. Furthermore, it prepares them for success in a rapidly evolving technological society where technological literacy is critical even if they don’t consider technology-based fields (Urban & Falvo, 2016). Moreover, it is vital for educators to use technology to help students improve science, mathematics, and technology literacy (Urban & Falvo, 2016).
When contemplating the inclusion or exclusion of technology in our curriculum, we can be guided by biblical principles. The Bible encourages faithful stewardship of resources (1 Corinthians 4:2), which includes the technological resources available to us. As educators, we are obligated to utilize these resources effectively and wisely for the benefit of our students. By integrating technology into the classroom, we embrace the opportunity to maximize the use of available resources, which in turn allows us to create a more stimulating and rewarding learning environment. Integrating technology in a smart and ethical way allows us to achieve our role as stewards and provides students with the tools they'll need to succeed in an increasingly digital environment.
Additionally, Proverbs 18:15 (NIV) underscores the importance of seeking contemporary knowledge and wisdom to effectively enable and empower future generations. As educators, we have a responsibility to equip students with relevant and up-to-date information that aligns with the rapidly evolving technological landscape. By including technology in education, we embrace the opportunity to provide students with the tools and skills necessary for success in the modern world. It enables us to bridge the gap between traditional wisdom and contemporary knowledge, ensuring that our teaching remains relevant and impactful.
Lastly, the Bible teaches us that knowledge and wisdom go hand in hand (Ecclesiastes 7:12 (NIV), n.d.). Technology supports education through facilitating communication, collaboration, and research. Educators can use technology to provide students with opportunities for personal growth and development. As a result, students will be better equipped to take advantage of future opportunities and overcome future obstacles inherent to the complexities of the digital age.
Furthermore, incorporating technology in the curriculum is consistent with biblical principles since it encourages responsible use of resources, helps students get ready for the real world, and helps them gain knowledge that will ultimately contribute to their personal growth and well-being.
My approach to teaching places an emphasis on a balanced integration of traditional teaching methods and technological tools in order to adhere to the professional and biblical responsibilities that are associated with technology. I am aware that technology is merely a supplement that can be used to improve teaching, and not a replacement for tried-and-true educational practices that have stood the test of time. According to Hughes & Roblyer (2022), teachers have a responsibility to "ensure digital resources offer advantages over current instructional practices" (p. 9). My strategy entails supplementing and enhancing the activities that take place in the classroom through the utilization of multimedia resources, interactive learning platforms, and collaborative digital tools. By integrating technology with thoughtful instructional design, I am able to create a stimulating and dynamic learning environment that fosters creativity, critical thinking, digital literacy, and learner engagement
Moreover, technology has a profound impact on education, functioning as a catalyst for innovation and change. As educators, we have a professional obligation to incorporate technology into our curriculum, considering its potential benefits for student engagement, personalized learning, and preparing students for a digital society. Aligning with biblical principles of responsible stewardship and equipping future generations, integrating technology into our teaching approach enhances the educational experience and equips students with the skills necessary to succeed.
